Ynyshir Hall, a 10 bedroom hotel in Wales has been awarded AA Hotel of the Year – Wales 2014-2015 and a Michelin Star. The AA inspectorate and other industry professionals are involved in the judging process which seeks excellence and success in the vast UK hospitality industry. The ‘guest and diner experience’ are judged and Ynyshir Hall have won recognition throughout 2014 for both the hotel and restaurant experience, with awards for the Ynyshir Hall and head chef Gareth Ward.
Joan and Rob Reen celebrate their 25th anniversary running Wales’ finest country house hotel this year. The hotel offers a truly unique ‘guest and diner experience’ with each room showcasing individual design including paintings by in-house artist Rob Reen. Food has always been a major draw for guests at Ynyshir Hall and current chef Gareth Ward has won praise from across the industry in just over a year at the hotel. His innovative tasting menus use local seasonal produce and like all chefs at Ynyshir Hall over the years, Joan and Rob have given him complete freedom to create his own menus and leave his mark, this freedom and respect for their chefs has previously resulted in a Michelin star under three chefs over 11 years. Gareth Ward was previously at Sat Bains.
Ynyshir Hall was once owned by Queen Victoria and is set within a breathtaking landscape in the secret heart of Wales. Cradled in acres of glorious gardens and surrounded by the Cambrian Mountains, Ynyshir Hall sits midst the splendour of the Dyfi Estuary in one of Britain’s finest bird reserves -the RSPB Ynys-hir; where BBC Springwatch is filmed. The hotel is located close to the beautiful Dovey Valley; Artists Valley, the inspiration for Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven.
The last twelve months have seen two new garden suites unveiled with unique views of the mountains. These suites use stone quarried from Ynyshir Hall’s own gardens and feature some of Wales’ largest bathrooms in a hotel. A Treatment and Therapy centre was introduced this year offering holistic treatments which assisted owner Joan Reen’s recovery from cancer and inspired her to offer a vast selection of treatments to help recharge body and mind. Treatments include Reflexology, Reiki, Tai-Chi, Shiatsu Massage, Energy Healing and Mindful Meditation Walking.
Throughout the hotel and in each of the bedrooms, art is a major part of the experience with Rob Reen’s most recent work ‘Studies of Sheep’, all available to purchase. The 25-cover restaurant also features several ‘oil on canvas’ and paintings and these change often. Rob recently collaborated with Villeroy & Boch to create a beautiful plate to celebrate art at Ynyshir Hall. One of Rob’s unique paintings featuring sheep has been transferred onto dinner plates which can be found in the restaurant in both blue & red. These limited edition plates are also available to purchase.
